Product Details
Believed to have been built over a period of 1,500 years, beginning around 3000 BC, Stonehenge is one of the most impressive and awe-inspiring prehistoric monuments in the world. Located on Salisbury Plain in southern England, the structure has been studied for many years, but archaeologists are still not certain of its original purpose. Some believe Stonehenge was a site used for making astronomical observations, while others think it was dedicated to sacred rites and rituals. Whatever its purpose, the construction of Stonehenge, and other megalithic (giant stone) structures, required a highly developed understanding of astronomy, mathematics, and building techniques.

This collection of detailed, ready-to-color illustrations transports colorists and students back to the Stone Age and shows how simple farmers and herdsmen built and may have used Stonehenge and other stone circles, tombs, and earthworks. Thirty drawings depict possible construction techniques used at Stonehenge, other Neolithic sites such as Avebury, a gallery grave (collective tomb) in France, a reconstructed Neolithic village, and 26 other remarkable scenes. Fact-filled captions complement this treasury of accurate, carefully researched drawings. Sure to please coloring book fans. Ages 9+.
